【木の特ちょう―幹の中がからっぽ！】
被爆樹の特ちょうの１つに「洞（うろ）」があります。幹にあいた大きな穴。これを「うろ」と呼びます。このマルバヤナギは、幹の中は空洞になっていますが、元気に生長を続けています。今、この木は樹皮だけで胴体を支えている状態。一時は、幹が裂けそうになったため、樹木医さんが治療しました。、幹をひもでぐるぐると巻いて固定し、保護された姿を見ていると、「木を守っていこう」という人々の願いが伝わってきます。幹からいくつもの小枝が伸びているのは「胴ぶき」と呼ばれるもの。木が弱ってきたために、新しい命をつないでいこうとしているのか、次々と伸びています。もしも、このマルバヤナギが枯れてしまっても、胴ぶきを育てれば、命をつないでいくことができるのです。この木のすぐそばには被爆ユーカリも立っています。2015年４月撮影

【被爆を伝える】
広島城は毛利輝元(1553－1625)が築いた城です。日清戦争（1894－95）の作戦指揮のため大本営が設置されました。原爆によって、大本営のあった建物は全壊し、天守閣、太鼓櫓（たいこやぐら）などもすべてが失われました。写真家、林重男氏が撮影した写真に、倒壊した中御門のそば、この木がひっそりと倒れている姿が映っています。

【この木に会いに行こう！】
路面電車「紙屋町東」下車、徒歩15分。ヤナギの仲間ですが、シダレヤナギと違って、葉が丸いことからこの名前が名づけられました。葉っぱの形、幹のうろを見てきてください。

This tree survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 770m from the hypocenter. It has a big scar, but it looks well taken care of and thriving. The tree has round leaves, so it is called "maruba-yanagi" in Japanese, meaning "round-leaf willow." There is the Eucalyptus near this tree. Apr,2015 Shooting

20 minute walk from the A-bomb Dome. There is this tree in Hiroshima-jo Castle. There is other A-bombed trees, including a Eucalyptus.

【木の特ちょう】 
原爆投下後に芽生え、今も生き続ける木の中で、最も爆心地に近い場所で被爆した木。原爆ドームから相生橋Aioi Bridgeを越え、本川（旧・太田川）のほとりを歩いて、１～２分のところに立っています。爆心直下で熱線と爆風を浴びた木は幹のほとんどが消失したと考えられています。しかし、このヤナギは死んではいませんでした。翌年の春、かろうじて残った根元の残骸からか、土の中から芽吹いたとされています。いつ、どの枝から芽が出たのか、教えてくれる人はありません。今は何事もなかったように、風に吹かれています。

  T字形の相生橋は原爆の投下目標にされました。普通の人々の一日が始まった朝、この橋を目指して原爆が落とされ、一瞬にして大勢の人間が殺戮されたのです。広島の川底には今も多くの人が眠ってます。2008年８月撮影

This tree survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 370m from the hypocenter. The willow is standing in the nearest place from the hypocenter. It had been rumored that "nothing will grow in Hiroshima for 75 years", so this sight rekindled courage and hope in many who were close to despair. located to the north of the Aioi Bridge on the east bank of the Honkawa River. Aioi Bridge was the target of the atomic bombing because of the visibility from the air of its unique T shape and its location at the very center of the city. The willow tree was burned down by the Atomic bombing, but new buds sprouted from the roots.
