№55 平和記念公園のインドハマユウ in 広島

1人の兵士が見つけた、葉を出した球根　
戦後、植え育てたハマユウは毎夏、白い花を咲かせます

【花の特ちょう―白い花】
夏になると、白い花を咲かせるインドハマユウ。細長い葉の間から、ラッパ型の花を除かせます。彼岸花の仲間で、ユリの花に似ています。「木」ではありませんが、この花も「被爆樹木」として広島市に登録され、保護されています。2015年５月撮影

【被爆を伝える】
この花は旧広島女子商業高校（段原町）で被爆し、花も葉も燃えました。原爆投下からひと月後、戦地から帰ってきた１人の兵士が焼け焦げた球根から葉が出ているのを見つけました。彼は故郷の神奈川県に帰還するとき、この球根を持ち帰り、家の庭に植え育てました。彼は育てるのが上手だったのでしょう。球根から株がだんだんと増えて、1969（昭和44）年、そのうちのいくつかを広島市に寄贈しました。それが今、平和公園で咲くハマユウです。

平和記念資料館から徒歩1分。資料館の売店前に立つ「被爆アオギリ」を背にして、歩いてすぐの花壇にインドハマユウがあります。

This flowers survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 2200m from the hypocenter.　 At 8:15 a.m, August 6,1945,Hiroshima was burned by the blazing heat of the atomic bomb. It had been rumored that"nothing will grow in Hiroshima for 75 years", so when people saw new buds sprouting in the bubs,they were encouraged and were able to have hope for their future. It is alive!
